Two important ladies in the community were recognized at May’s AARP meeting at the Ralph Lutes Senior Center.

Mayor Joetta Calhoun honored Patty J. Curtsinger for her dedication of donating her time to family and community members through making meals, cutting hair and giving rides to people for the last 30 years.

Curtsinger, who was choked up by the presentation, thanked everyone for their support for her daughter about 20 years ago when she had to have a liver transport.

She said she’s been touched by this community and it’s generosity ever since so she wanted to give back.

“I really believe it takes a village to raise a child,” she said. “I never thought you would be honoring me today.”

AARP tax aide volunteer Mary Thompson was also recognized for her 20 plus years of work. Her organization e-filed more than 200 returns this season for the AARP chapter.
