LOUISVILLE - Formed about 15 months ago, the partnership between the Jefferson County and Bullitt County sheriff’s department worked with the federal DEA to make a major drug bust.

The drug interdiction team, which focuses on drug trafficking along Interstate 65, assisted DEA in making seven felony arrests where over 43,000 pounds of marijuana, over $300,000 in cash and six vehicles were seized.

Bullitt County sheriff Donnie Tinnell said he was pleased the interdiction team could provide assistance.

    “We’re pretty proud,” said Tinnell.

The undercover officers, including Larry Etherton of the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Department, had been doing surveillance for some time.

Etherton captured the semi-truck driver, who has run his rig off Aiken Road in Jefferson County. The driver was on foot when Etherton apprehended him.

The truck was seized and unloaded in Bullitt County at the road department.

The investigation continues. Tinnell said it was a major bust and a great accomplishment in keeping marijuana out of the communities.
