The only thing missing on Monday afternoon was a little Irish whiskey and some leprechauns.
The announcement that Portwest LLC would start its North American operations in Shepherdsville was perfect timing - an Irish company coming to Bullitt County on St. Patrick’s Day.
The company, which has specialized in outerwear and safety protective wear for the past 100 years, has been a major supplier in Europe and Africa.
Now, when it decided to move into new territories, Bullitt County was selected as its first distribution facility.
The $4.4 million investment isn’t the largest and the plans for having 100 employees in a few years won’t make it the biggest job supplier.
But in these tough times, any announcement is big. Having an international company is even bigger.
The city of Shepherdsville should be proud, along with Bullitt County, to have a new company expand its footprint in Bullitt County.
And Bullitt County EDA director John Snider told Gov. Stephen Beshear to keep his calendar open over the next few months as more announcements are forthcoming.
It was a festive day in the community thanks to the announcement of Portwest. We welcome them to the community and to the United States.
Bullitt County is truly an international marketplace.
