HILLVIEW - So much fun can only be fit into a couple of days. That's why this year's annual Hillview City Fair will include three days of community fun May 28-30.
The addition of a third day had a lot to do with the addition of new ride attractions courtesy of Geno's Rides.
Hillview recreation director Terry Bohannon said the rides at the City Fair were the same ones used at Zoneton Fire Department's recent Crusade Carnival. A total of 12 rides for all age levels.
Mayor Jim Eadens said Geno's would supply the rides without charging the city for additional set-up costs. Bohannon added that the city would also receive 15 percent of all ride receipts.
Rides will be available at a cost of $1 per ticket. Bohannon said each ride would average two to three tickets.
On Thursday night ride wristbands will be available throughout the evening at a cost of $12. Along with rides, Eadens said the highlight of every City Fair was the free music entertainment.
This year's music highlights include impersonator Danny Dale and family, scheduled to perform Saturday at 7 p.m. Eadens said Dale's wife and two children join in on the act presenting "Legends Then and Now," offering in-character songs ranging from Buddy Holly to Loretta Lynn.
Friday night's music lineup includes Jim Coffey at 7 p.m., presenting Country, Gospel and Bluegrass songs. Maryville Baptist Church will feature more Bluegrass beginning at 8 p.m.
All concerts will be held indoors at the Hillview Community Center gymnasium. Concerts are free with donations accepted toward Hillview's annual Operation Santa program.
Hillview's weekly Bluegrass jam will supply the tunes on Thursday night.
Another City Fair highlight is the petting zoo, featuring animals such as goats, chickens and pot-bellied pigs. Bohannon said the petting zoo remains a local favorite.
As a community service, Hillview will supply tractor wagon shuttles for patrons to and from the parking areas.
Hillview's fourth annual City Fair will take place Thursday and Friday beginning at 6 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. For more information call the city's Recreation Department, 957-5280.
