SHEPHERDSVILLE — For 85 years Bullitt County Woman’s Club members have been champions for education, style and community service.
Those values will be the focus at this year’s 38th-Annual Irene Carroll Scholarship Luncheon and Style Show scheduled for March 21 at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.
“We’re kind of building the whole show around that theme,” said style show co-coordinator Jennifer Porter. “This is our 85th birthday. We’re the oldest civic organization in Bullitt County.”
The four 2009 Irene Carroll Scholarship recipients will be announced during the luncheon. The recipients have an opportunity to share why the money is important to furthering their education.
Scholarship committee members review applications and select a winner from each Bullitt County High School — Riverview, Bullitt East, North Bullitt and Bullitt Central.
Each scholarship is a one-time award of $1,500 to go toward the recipient’s school of choice.
“One of our main goals is education,” Porter said. “We’ve taken a great interest in the kids.”
The style show featuring trendy spring and summer attire for the whole family will be presented following the scholarship presentation.
Fashions will be provided by Talbots and Honey Beez. Accessories will be furnished by Shepherdsville Florist and Madam Foo Foo Couture hats. The fashions will be modeled by local Woman’s Club members and their families.
Guests should come hungry as lunch will include homemade chicken salad, fresh fruit, muffins and dessert will be assorted “mini” cakes to commemorate the club’s 85th birthday.
“It should be really cute,” Porter said.
In addition to the style show and scholarship presentation, there will be a silent auction.
Shares for a Derby prize package and a “Celebrate Your Birthday” package will be sold for $1 each. The Derby package will include an official Derby print, two tickets to the Derby at clubhouse level and Dinner at John E’s restaurant. The “Celebrate Your Birthday” package will include a variety of luxury items from a massage to theatre tickets.
The Irene Carroll Scholarship Luncheon and Style Show will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and can be reserved by calling 538-6623 or 538-7410.
