LEXINGTON - A pair of local wrestlers got a good learning experience over the weekend as they competed in their first trip to the Kentucky State Wrestling Championships at the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

Bullitt Central’s Mike Saunders has made big strides throughout the season and he picked up the only win for the local wrestlers before finishing with a 1-2 record.

Wrestling at 170-pounds, Saunders had a tough opening round match against the top wrestler from Region 4 as he was pinned by Dylan Marksbury of North Oldham at the 3:46 mark. The sophomore then bounced back and picked up a victory in the consolation bracket as he pinned Clay Revelett of Caldwell County at the 1:47 mark. Saunders was then eliminated from the 32-man field by Ryan Mosher of Madison Central in a 7-2 decision.

Saunder’s win did give Bullitt Central three points in the team scoring.

North Bullitt junior Tony Redemann also has soared up the local wrestling ladder for the second-year of the Eagle program. Redemann won the junior-varsity state title a month ago, but he found the competition a lot tougher at the varsity level.

In his opening match, Redemann had to take on Region II titlist Cameron Montgomery of University Heights. Montgomery got the best of that match, pinning Redemann at the 1:11 mark. In the consolation bracket, Redemann’s meet came to an end with a 14-4 loss to Anderson County’s Zack Perry.
