Louisville Invitational Tournament

MOUNT WASHINGTON - It took three overtimes, but the Southern Trojans earned the right to play Bullitt East on Wednesday in the second-round of the Boys’ Louisville Invitational Tournament.

Southern beat Fairdale in the last of four first-round games on Monday by hitting eight straight free throws in the third overtime and then went on to win by an 87-85 score. Randall Pickett led Southern with 28 points while Alan Almanza had 15 points.

Bullitt East and Southern were district rivals until this season. The two old rivals were not scheduled to play during the regular season until the Trojans set it up with the win on Monday.

The Bullitt East-Southern game will be played at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday at Bellarmine University’s Knights Hall.
