LOUISVILLE – After winning the Region 3 Archery title ten days earlier, the Bullitt East program could not repeat that strong performance last Monday and Tuesday in the NASP/KHSAA State Archery Tournament at the Commonwealth Convention Center in Louisville.

Bullitt East’s top team finished 14th overall out of 56 teams taking part. The Chargers could do no better than 3,318 in their rounds after finishing with a 3,350 in the regional meet.

Bullitt East’s number two team (because this was a combined NASP/KHSAA event and because it was the first year of KHSAA involvement, Bullitt East could enter two teams as did a handful of schools) finished 36th at 3,150.

There were a total of 1,266 archers taking part in the state tournament with 508 girls and 758 boys. On the team level, boys and girls compete together and each team score must have at least four scores from the opposite sex out of the 12 scores that make up the team total.

There was separate individual competition for both boys and girls.

A perfect score in archery is 300. The winning score at the state meet for the girls was a 292 while the top boys’ score was a 297. Because so many were competing, the final ranking spots used a number of tie-breakers as many of the athletes posted the same scores (the top three Bullitt East boys each had a 279).

The top five girls’ scores for Bullitt East were: Marissa Eschman, sophomore, 18th, 284; Morgan Caudill, freshman, 26th, 282; Emily Miles, freshman, 59th, 276; Tiffany Prell, freshman, 70th, 275; and Sierra Waddle, freshman, 97th, 272.

The top five boys’ scores for Bullitt East were: Sam Wilson, freshman, 104th, 279; Jerred Rueve, sophomore, 106th, 279; Justin Bagby, junior, 113th, 279; Morgan Vaughn, 124th, 278; and Dylan Gensheimer, sophomore, 137th, 276.

All three Bullitt County archery programs actually took part in the state competition as they each scored at least a 3,000 in the regional meet.

At the state finals, Bullitt Central finished with a 3,089 to be 44th overall. North Bullitt had a 3,039 and was 52nd.

The five best girls’ scores for Bullitt Central were: Katelyn Frye, senior, 136th, 269; Chloe Buday, sophomore, 190th, 262; Karen Watkins, sophomore, 247th, 256; Kaitlyn Kennedy, sophomore, 274th, 254; and Morgan Rhule, junior, 319th, 248.

The five best boys’ scores for Bullitt Central were: Zachary Young, freshman, 210th, 272; Jacob Rosson, junior, 228th, 271; Brett Ragg, sophomore, 255th, 269; Cameron George, junior, 409th, 259; and Cody Manning, junior, 717th, 216.
