SHEPHERDSVILLE - The Bullitt East Charger golf team capped off a strong regular season on Wednesday as they retained the traveling trophy in the Two-County Cup Tournament.

The annual event, which has been contested a dozen times, pits the best boys' golfers from Bullitt East, Bullitt Central, North Bullitt and Spencer County. The four teams competed at Tanglewood Golf Course on Tuesday before finishing up at Heritage Hill on Thursday.

The scoring system is unique to this event. The four squads played a scramble on the first day and then each squad put six players on the course in foursomes on Wednesday. The low score in each foursome got four points and down to one point.

After the scores were close on Tuesday, Bullitt East pulled away on Wednesday to win with 34 points. Spencer County was second at 23.5 while North Bullitt had 20 points while Bullitt Central finished with 12.5 points.

On Wednesday, Bullitt East had the four best scores of the day. Tyler Wood shot a 41 while junior Michael Murphy was one shot back. Tied for third at 43 were Zach Taylor and Wes Taylor. Bullitt East also got a 47 by Dillon Sego and a 54 by Hunter Simmons.

North Bullitt had a 47 by Justin Stinson, a 48 by Jared Free and a 50 by Justin Clayton. The Eagles also had a 55 by Austin Reynolds, a 57 by Camden Davenport and a 58 by Evan Simms.

Bullitt Central's scores included a 51 by Casey Goins, a 53 by Pierce Frye and a 57 by Alex Nusz. The Cougars also had a 62 by Jake Cox, a 64 by Timmy O'Keefe and a 74 by Patrick Malone.

Regional Play Next

The two regional golf tournament will be contested this week with both the boys' and girls' events being contested at Lindsey Golf Course which is located at Fort Knox.

The girls' will play first this year with action on Monday. While Bullitt East is rebuilding this season and does not have a senior, they will be looking for a solid middle of the pack finish. The five girls that will play for head coach Andy Oder will be Olivia Pruitt, Morgan Judd, Erica Hall, Marissa Eschman and Savannah Morris.

North Bullitt will have just one girl competing, senior Darian Webb. Bullitt Central, which rejuvenated its program this season, will not have anyone playing on Monday.

The boys will then take the course on Tuesday in a very tough field that will be tough to crack. The top two teams and then next three individuals not on those two teams will advance to the Kentucky State Tournament the following week in Bowling Green.

Playing for Bullitt East on Tuesday will be Michael Murphy, Dillon Sego, Zach Taylor, Tyler Wood and Wes Taylor.

North Bullitt's five-man team (the top four scores will make up the team score) will be Austin Reynolds, Camden Davenport, Justin Clayton, Evan Simms and Jared Free.

Bullitt Central head coach Clay Harned will pick his five-man team from the six players who competed in the Two-County Cup tourney. Those options include Casey Goins, Alex Nusz, Jake Cox, Pierce Frye, Patrick Malone and Timmy O'Keefe.
