Each year, we preach about the need to be safe on the roadways as students get ready to return to the classrooms.
This year is no different. However, there is an added emphasis on safety.
Thanks to the federal stimulus dollars, major road construction projects have been started throughout the county. These projects will not be completed for months to come.
There is also the added dangers at the various schools. Although classes are set to begin on Tuesday, that doesn’t mean all the construction has been completed.
Many schools have projects underway and many of those will interrupt the normal traffic patterns. Safety and patience will be needed.
And, there is the general dangers which exist on the roadways. Too many drivers are already on crowded roads. Add to that the general impatience many of us have, as well as the notion that cell phones are meant to be used while we drive.
There will be a lot of distractions. We need to be safe so our most precious cargo, the children, can arrive to and from school in a safe, sound manner.
