MOUNT WASHINGTON - Bullitt East basketball standout Nikole Isabel suffered a serious knee injury recently and had surgery last Thursday.
Isabel, the leading returning scorer for the Lady Chargers and one of the top players in the Sixth Region, injured the knee while playing basketball in an ‘open’ gym at the school.
According to Bullitt East head coach Chris Stallings, Isabel’s injury is not that much different from the one suffered by Jessica Philpott last summer. Philpott missed her entire senior season following her surgery, but will be ready to play for Transylvania University next winter. Philpott returned from her surgery to participate in short Senior Night action and to play in the Sixth Region Tournament, but never saw competitive action.
Isabel’s surgery is three months earlier in the calender year than Philpott’s surgery, giving Bullitt East coaches some hope that Isabel will be able to play this upcoming season.
Isabel was selected to play for the Kentucky Junior All-Stars last night in a scrimmage against the Kentucky All-Stars, but was scratched from that game.
