BE tennis players seeded for region

 FRANKFORT – Local tennis players will enter regional play today at two locations in Franklin County.

In the hunt for advancement to the state tournament, two Bullitt East entries will be seeded in the Eighth Regional event.

In singles, Charger senior Dalton Sego earned a seventh-seed in the singles tournament.

He will open against Robert Greenwell of Western Hills High School.

The other seeded entry is the doubles duo of Reese Milburn and Hunter Norris. The senior and junior will be seeded second in the tournament.

They will begin play on Monday afternoon against the Carroll County team of Abercombie and Kates.

Jacob Calvert of Bullitt Central will face Bullitt East’s Jacob Staples in the first round. Cougar teammate Alex Price will face Garrett Dameron of Grant County.

North Bullitt’s Isaac Heines will face Shelby County’s Jimmy Welman. And his teammate, Philip Beisswenger, will play the second seed Tyler Kilambi of North Oldham.

In boys’ doubles, Bullitt Central will be represented by Daily and Flener, who will open against the fifth seeds, and Campbell and Craddock, who will play against the sixth seeds.

North Bullitt’s Warden and Kirk, who open against an unseeded team from Spencer County, and Clark and Johnson, who will play Monday morning against an unseeded team from Collins High.

Bullitt East’s other doubles team will be Dylan Hooper and Zach Marlett will play the Collins duo of Johnson and Noel.

For the girls, it will be the first time in years that no Bullitt County player has been seeded.

In singles, Bullitt Central’s Haylee Benefield will face Rachel Nobel of Grant County in the first round. Traci Henderson of North Bullitt will face Savannah Clark of Grant County in the first round.

Savannah Kruse of Bullitt East will face Rebeckah Cardwell of Anderson County in the second round. Teammate Amber Douthat will face nine-seed Cara Steitz of Franklin County.

The other Eagle entry in the singles will be Lottie Eicher, who faces Hailey Coffey of Shelby County.

In doubles, Bullitt Central’s Terry and Kruer will face North Bullitt’s Glenn and Druien in the first round.

In second round action, Bullitt East’s Christine Heck and Jessi Hottois will face Thomas and Bagniefski of North Bullitt.

Also, Bullitt Central’s Gossett and Wolf will face Anderson County’s Isaacs and Gehefer in the second round.

Masi Sanders and Kyler Ware of Bullitt East will face the top seed from North Oldham, McGuire and Walton.

The plan is to play the first two rounds of action on Monday, weather permitting. Play begins at 9:30 a.m. at Franklin County for the boys and Western Hills for the girls.

Quarterfinal play begins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with the semifinals on Wednesday and finals on Thursday.

The semifinals and finals for both the girls and boys will be at Franklin County High School.
