CLERMONT - Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest invites children and anyone interested in their development and well-being to the Pop-Up Adventure Playground Days on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Louisville’s Russell Lee Park (3701 Southern Avenue, Louisville) and Thursday, Feb. 27, from 1-4 p.m. at Bernheim Forest in Clermont.
Members of the internationally recognized organization, Pop-Up Adventure Play organization, based in London England, are joining Bernheim to make the Playground Days a fun filled experience for everyone who joins them.
“No matter the season, outdoor play is critical to a child’s development,” said Claude Stephens, Bernheim’s Outreach Facilitator. “Studies have repeatedly shown the importance of self-directed play in nature for the health, well-being and even academic performance.”
Following the Playground Day on Wednesday, February 26, Bernheim will also host a Play Day Workshop at West End School from 6-8:30 p.m.
Morgan Leichter-Saxby, an expert in children’ss play and the 2012 Playwork Writer of the Year will lead the workshop.
Both activities are a part of the Children at Play Initiative that Bernheim launched this past October.
The effort aims to encourage outdoor play environments and practices that connect children with nature for life.
The Playground Days are free.
Children must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or teacher.
The Workshop cost up to $25 depending on the participant’s ability to pay.
To register, contact Stephens at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Children at Play initiative is made possible through a generous grant from the PNC foundation.
