A local grandparent lost $12,000 when scam artists contacted her, posing as her grandchild in distress seeking money for a supposed arrest in Haiti. If faced with such a call, indicating an emergency situation, BBB advises seniors to verify the identity of the individual, check-out the story with other family members, and be wary of any requests to wire money.
