In the top of the fifth inning, Ben Parker hit a long two-run homer to propel Okolona over Blue Lick 5-3 in the quarterfinals of the state Babe Ruth baseball tournament.

The host Okolona team would go on to win the state title and advance to the Ohio Valley regional tournament later this week in Wisconsin.

The Okolona team, which played under the Blue Lick colors the past few years, will return to the regional for a third straight year, including two as state champs.

In the quarterfinal battle on Saturday, Blue Lick jumped on top 1-0 in the bottom of the second.

Austin Norris singled and Daulton Walls walked. Austin Trammell singled to load the bases.

Wesley Parker’s sacrifice fly plated the first run.

But Okolona came right back in the third.

Tyler Capito and Cody Powell both singled. They advanced on a bunt by Cody Stinnett.

Nick Donninger followed with a sacrifice fly to score the tying run and Michael Harris followed with a single to center. Alex Wilder walked and Justin Belt singled to left. Matt Hayes ended the inning with an RBI single.

Blue Lick would tie the game in the fourth inning.

Chance Egnor reached on an error and Norris walked. Walls followed with an RBI single. Parker’s sacrifice fly made it 3-3.

The winning runs scored when Hayes led off the fifth with a walk and Parker hit a home run for the 5-3 victory.

The loss closed out the Blue Lick season with a 2-2 mark in the state tournament.

In the opening round of pool play, Blue Lick fell 9-4 to Owensboro on Wednesday.

On Friday, Blue Lick came back Friday to defeat Lyon County 9-0.

The local team got off with a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Justin Stinson reached on an error and Norris singled. Egnor’s sacrifice fly brought home the first run.

Then Morgun Willis hit a towering fly ball in which the rightfielder lost the ball in the sun. Willis would end up with a two-run inside-the-park homer.

That would be all the run support Parker would need as he went the distance.

In the opening game of the single-elimination tournament, Blue Lick defeated Warren County 12-2 in five innings.

Blue Lick scored a run in the first on Luke Sivori’s double and Egnor’s RBI single.

Blue Lick blew the game open in the second inning as Adrian Maddox was the winning pitcher.

Blue Lick 16-18 All-Stars were James Constant, Chance Egnor, Darren Harper, Kyle Hoskins, Adrian Maddox, Cameron Magers, Austin Norris, Wesley Parker, Luke Sivori, Justin Stinson, Austin Trammell, Austin Tucker, Daulton Walls and Morgun Willis.

Manager Tommy Parker was assisted by Challis Ford and Jeff Walls.
