Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest provides a grand celebration of spring in all her glory during BloomFest on Saturday, May 21.

This annual event that occurs on the third Saturday of May shares nature, color, art, music and creativity with everyone in the family.

Woodland Faerie magic returns to BloomFest!  Children will delight in the imaginative, creative play in nature as she or he helps to construct the village out of all natural materials (moss, twigs, bark and other found items).

Bernheim’s Construction Zone Crew will be issuing building permits and materials for every creative contractor.  Children of all ages are encouraged to dress as woodland faeries, elves, gnomes or flowers, and for 12 and under, there will be a costume parade led by a Woodland Faerie Empress.

All children will receive a special remembrance as a participant.  (Parents or other adult guardians must be present.)

Visitors will enjoy live music and other entertainment.  Food, snacks and ice cream will be available throughout the day.  Kentucky craft artists, Bernheim’s Nature Discovery Stations and other booths from community friends such as The Kentucky Bluebird Society, Kentucky Native Plant Society, Magnificent Mushrooms and many more will be on hand to entertain and inform.

A Tai Chi demonstration will be held at 1:30 p.m.

The Louisville Plein Air Painters and other artists will showcase their artistic talents.

Antique Model A cars will be on the grounds.  Visitors can learn about paddlefish, shitake mushrooms, frogs and wildflowers; families can fly kites, play games and spend quality time together on a beautiful day at Bernheim.

The annual Spring Plant Sale features Bernheim SelectTM, a distinctive variety of plants propagated from Bernheim’s own collections, along with a varied selection of other unique trees, shrubs, grasses and perennial herbaceous plants.
