DODGEVILLE, WIS. - After falling into the loser’s bracket the very first game, the Blue Lick 18U All-Stars battled back to finish third in the Ohio Valley Regional baseball tournament.
Blue Lick finished 3-2 in the eight-team tournament, one of eight regional playoffs across the country.
Whether is was the long drive or a bit of the nerves, the Blue Lick All-Stars came out sluggish in the opener Saturday, losing 6-3 to Harrison County, Ind.
Blue Lick got started when Jeffrey Fortwengler doubled and scored on an error. However, Harrison County came back to knot the came in the bottom of the first by virtue of two walks and a single.
Harrison County would put runs up on the board in the third and fourth off starter Blake Hardy.
Down 5-1 in the sixth, Blue Lick made its last challenge. Jesse King walked and Ben Parker hit an RBI triple. Forrest Miller had and RBI single but was their picked off with the score 5-3.
Manager Scott Belt said Blue Lick came out hitting the ball on the button as the first nine batters hit it hard - unfortunately, it was at an opposing player.
