HILLVIEW - Two programs were kids are pretty familiar with one another met on the diamond in the Babe Ruth District tournament at Blue Lick Optimist Park.
Unfortunately for the host team, Okolona had their number twice en route to a championship encounter against eventual champ, Prairie Village.
Blue Lick lost 9-7 to Okolona in the opening round and then was eliminated by its neighbor to the north 4-3 on Saturday.
In the opener, Blue Lick jumped out on top behind the pitching of Jacob Johnson. However, the wheels fell off in one inning as Okolona took the lead.
Blue Lick came back to tie the score but Okolona tallied the final runs for the victory.
Still alive in the double-elimination tournament, Blue Lick collected 13 hits and scored 24 runs in a victory over Fairdale.
Brady Keehn pitched the 24-0 shutout victory in only four innings. He gave up two hits.
Everyone got into the act as Blue Lick also benefited from seven Fairdale errors and a number of walks.
Keehn and Jon Claycomb had doubles for the winners.
Blue Lick and Okolona, a 24-2 loser to Prairie Village in the winner’s bracket final, faced off on Saturday afternoon with the loser going home.
It would be Okolona that jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings. Blue Lick came back with two runs in the third but the pitchers dominated after that.
Claycomb and Keehn again had doubles for Blue Lick, which outhit Okolona 6-4. The host team also led the error category 2-1.
Blue Lick All-Stars were Brennan Brewer, Dylan Clark, Jon Claycomb, Logan Dorsey, Derek Downing, James Lee Estes, Donnie Gearlds, Zach Hutchins, Jacob Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Brady Keehn, Dakota Mudd and Cody Vaughan. Manager Allan Downing was assisted by David Johnson and Jim Hutchins.
