MOUNT WASHINGTON - A couple of new businesses received needed approvals for the Mount Washington area.

The Bullitt County Board of Adjustment approved a conditional-use permit to allow Twelve Oaks Development to operate a commercial garden center.

Business owner Kenny Stout said the plan is to lease about six acres off the Mount Washington bypass to operate a commercial garden center.

Stout’s Building Center operates on old Bardstown Road in downtown Mount Washington.

Stout said the new site would allow an expansion of the current offerings. There may be some storage buildings on the lot for sale.

He expected the operational season to be from April through October.

It will be fenced and properly maintained, said Stout.

Another conditional-use permit was granted for East Bullitt Animal Clinic, to be located at 10744 Highway 44 East.

Dr. Stephanie Pollett said it would be a full-service veterinary center but she didn’t anticipate any boarding of animals.

The only exception would be for some overnight boarding of animals which had undergone surgery.

Both requests received unanimous support from the board.

    In other board business:

*New Life Church of God was given a conditional-use permit to have a day care center on Raymond Road.

Pastor Jimmie Dock said the plan was to have no more than 43 youngsters, which is the limit of its state permit application.

There was previously a child care center at the facility. Six to eight employees would be hired. He is expecting 24 youngsters ages 18 months and older.

*Commonwealth Sign Co. was granted a variance to change an existing sign at a hotel in the city of Hillview. The vote was 5-1.

The Ramada Inn will be changing its franchise to Comfort Inn. The variance allows for the new sign, which will also include a sign for its indoor water park.

Remodeling is currently underway on the hotel, which remains open. It originally was a Baymont Inn and has since been a Hearthstone Inn and Ramada Inn.

*Danny Patel was granted a variance to add a sign to the existing Days Inn sign on Highway 44 in Shepherdsville.

The sign will be under the existing sign and will be 60 square feet.

    The vote was 5-1.

The next meeting of the Bullitt County Board of Adjustment will be on Thursday, April 8, at 6 p.m. in the Nina Mooney Courthouse Annex. The public is invited.
