SHEPHERDSVILLE -- Another restaurant chain is looking to continue its trek north with a new eatery in Bullitt County.

Bojangles, which has over 600 restaurants, including 11 in Kentucky, will build its northern-most eatery the Commonwealth in Shepherdsville.

The company secured a variance for five smaller-than-allowed parking spaces, as well as its site plan review, on Thursday.

Attorney Eric Merlino, representing the company based in Tennessee, said that the restaurant is to be located on Conestoga Parkway adjacent to the PBI Bank facility.

Of the parking spaces, five would need to be smaller than the 200-square-foot requirement.

The Bullitt County Board of Adjustments unanimously approved that change.

The Bullitt County Planning Commission then unanimously approved the site plan for the restaurant.

There were no concerns.

Mark Mimms, who is involved with real estate transactions for the company, said that Bojangles is moving back into the Louisville area. Currently, the closest locations are in Frankfort and Lexington.

The company, which specializes in chicken, previously had a presence in the Louisville market. The closet restaurant to Bullitt County was located on Fern Valley Road prior to its closing years ago.

Work is supposed to start quickly on the new restaurant.

Primarily, Bojangles, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, has been located in the southern part of the United States. It has over 600 locations.

Recently, Panara Bread received approval for its planned restaurant across Conestoga Parkway on Keystone Crossroads. Site work recently started on that restaurant, which is expected to be open by the end of 2017.
