BROOKS - School volunteers created a new rain garden at Brooks Elementary.

A depression area between the school building and parking lot was transformed with the addition of native wildflowers, plants and trees.

Bernheim Forest helped out with a number of donated native plants and seedlings.

More plants were donated courtesy of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort. Action Landscaping of Louisville also donated numerous flower beds.

Principal Cheri Lineweaver said 34 volunteers participated in planting the rain forest, including students from Bullitt Central High School’s horticulture class.

Lineweaver credited the new school building’s architect, Sherman Carter Barnhart, PSC, for designing the garden as part of the building’s overall energy efficiency theme.
