Bullitt County officials are encouraging the public to take advantage of a free prescription discount card available to county residents regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage.
The hassle-free card, available since 006 through the county’s membership in the National Association of Counties (NACo), has resulted in more than $365,000 in savings for residents on their prescription drug costs.
“Bullitt County launched the program to help our residents cope with the high price of prescriptions,” said Judge Executive Melanie Roberts. “With so many families struggling , we want to make sure everyone knows that these valuable discount cards are available at no cost to the consumer or taxpayer.”
Nationally, nearly $500 million has been saved on more than 37 million prescription purchases since the program began in late 2004. The average savings per transaction is 24 percent. Roberts said county officials are hopeful that more Bullitt County residents obtain a card and begin saving money today.
“Using the prescription discount is easy,” Roberts said. “Simply present it at a participating pharmacy. There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use. Cardholders and their family members may use the card anytime their prescriptions are not covered by insurance.”
The card can also be used for some pet medications.
The program is administered on behalf of the county and NACo by CVS Caremark. Cards are available at Judge Executive Melanie Roberts’ office or calling toll free 1-877-321-2652. Residents can also print their own card at: http://www.nacorx.org/.
