Bullitt County Farm Bureau was recognized with the 2011 Gold Star Award of Excellence for its Young Farm program.

The award honors a county’s Young Farmer Committee for its active participation in Farm Bureau leadership development programs, state competitions and educational or promotional initiatives.

Kyle Skidmore of the Bullitt County Young Farmer Committee was joined by George Henderman, president of Bullitt County Farm Bureau, for the presentation.

Lilly Mooney, a fifth-grade student from Shepherdsville, was among 11 students statewide to be selected to display an agriculture science project at last week’s Kentucky Farm Bureau annual meeting in Louisville.

Mooney did her project on Pesky Pets. It explored bug repellents and pesticides that can be developed with all natural materials and used as an effective alternative to chemicals.

Her winning project was awarded $75 and a certificate of recognition for her participation.
