Recently, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mount Washington celebrated a special occasion.
The congregation had a note-burning ceremony to celebrate the paying off of the mortgage on their new church in about four years.
The Rev. Dale Cieslik, the church pastor, thanked the members for their generosity.
“It’s through giving back to God through you that this house was built.”
After the note-burning, parishioners released balloons to symbolize their debt being lifted.
Business manager Helen Hagan and former pastor, the Rev. Scott Wimsett, burned the mortgage.
