Public invited to unique blend of health, school and business

SHEPHERDSVILLE - The longer you can stay around and be healthy, the longer you can help donate to your local school.

The Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Showcase Bullitt County and Health Fair, scheduled for Monday, Sept. 24, at the Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

The joint community-wide event has taken place for seven years but changed for the first time to a Monday.

Chamber director Freida Howe said the move was to avoid conflict with local school homecoming parades.

Showcase offers an opportunity for local businesses to show their products and services to the community in a centralized location.

The annual health fair was combined with Showcase, offering patrons health screenings and services along with the local business information.

Among the Health Fair participants, Howe said Medica Pharmacy would feature flu shots and blood pressure screenings. Medica is the presenting sponsor for this year’s event.

Apex Physical Therapy will offer assessments for backs and shoulders. Forever Young Chiropractic will host spinal stress screenings.

The Bullitt County Health Department will also be at the event, featuring body fat analysis.

As an added feature to Showcase, the Chamber offers Bullitt County Public Schools an opportunity to raise funds as well as show a little of what they offer.

Howe said everyone attending the event will be asked to make at least a $1 donation to the Bullitt County school of their choice. Designated fishbowls will be used to separate the donations.

According to Howe, the school that receives the most donations in percentage to their student population will receive a cash prize of $500.

Various BCPS groups will perform during Showcase, including bands from Bullitt Lick Middle (4:00 p.m.), Hebron Middle (5:00), Mount Washington Middle (6:00) and Zoneton Middle (6:30).

BCPS will also present booths hosted by the Area Technology Center and the Bullitt Advanced Math and Science (BAMS) program, along with the district transportation department.

All Showcase visitors will be eligible to win door prizes donated by the various businesses in attendance. Winners will be announced throughout the event at the Chamber booth.

Over 50 booths will be represented at Showcase. Booth space remains available through Thursday, Sep. 20. Booths are $200 for Chamber members and $250 for non-members. Table spaces are also available for $100. For more information call the Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce, 955-9641.

Park Community Federal Credit Union is the presenting sponsor for Showcase Bullitt County. Other sponsors include Paroquet Springs, Publishers Printing and The Pioneer News.
