CEDAR GROVE - Through the combination of Heritage Hill Golf Course and Bullitt East, one of the top early season golf tournaments will be held on Wednesday with the Bullitt East Charger Open.

The tournament lost it’s main sponsor for a year ago, but first-year Bullitt East head coach Kyle Downs has managed to assemble some smaller sponsors for this tourney.

The tournament was the idea of former Bullitt East head coach Todd Eastridge who started it a year ago. He put this year’s field together before leaving Bullitt East to take a teaching position at Manual High School.

That is a little ironic as Manual returns as the defending team champion from last season. The Crimsons are coached by Bill Jackson who once was an assistant basketball coach at Bullitt Central.

All three Bullitt County teams will play in this event with Bullitt East having two teams. Greenup County will also bring two teams. The rest of the field includes all three teams from Oldham County, a day after the Oldham County Invitational. Other schools taking part include Beechwood, Somerset, Grant County, Russell High School, Butler, Male, South Laurel, Cooper, Holy Cross and Clinton County.

The tournament will start at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Heritage Hill Golf Course with a shotgun start. The awards should be presented around 1:30 p.m.

The public is invited to come out and watch the golfers. There is no admission charge.
