SHEPHERDSVILLE - Members of the Shepherdsville High School class of 1956 gathered for a special 55th anniversary luncheon.

Eighteen members of the class met once again at the Country Cupboard to swap stories and update one another on personal events.

“This is our first reunion since the 50th,” said event organizer Herman Hardesty. “We’ve lost three members since the 50th. Of the original 38, there are 12 confirmed dead and one suspected dead. He hasn’t been seen since graduation. He had an address in California but that was long ago.”

Among the special guests were Larry Ward, who traveled from his home in Chapel, S.C., for the event.

“I missed the 50th because I was moving from Florida to South Carolina,” he said. “I’m glad to be here. Most of these people I have not seen in about 55 years.”

Another class member, Bill Ferguson, made it to the event all the way from Texas.

Hardesty, who now lives in Lexington, said about 75 percent of the class still lives in Bullitt County and the Louisville area, which helps bring a strong turnout for the events.
