Johnny Cochran, a home-schooled freshman from Shepherdsville, participated in the National Home School Soccer Championship with his Louisville-based team, River City Jaguars.

The championship is held each fall in Fort Wayne, Ind., with teams competing from across the country.

This year, the Jaguars competed in Division 2 for the Gold championship. They played teams from Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota.

Cochran started each game at a forward and in the midfield. His goal in the second game against Kalamazoo came at a critical point in a 2-1 victory.

The championship game was held on Saturday, Oct. 31, with the Jaguars facing the Metro United team from Minneapolis. The final game ended in a shootout with Cochran’s goal sealing the championship.

The Jaguars returned to Louisville as the Division 2 national champs.
