Come on home for LJ annual festival

LEBANON JUNCTION OLD FASHION DAYS

By Alex Wimsatt

LEBANON JUNCTION - After more than 60 years, the Old Fashion Days Festival is still calling Lebanon Junction natives home, which is why organizers chose this year’s theme - Our Town, Home Sweet Home.

“A lot of people who come to the festival tell us it’s like a homecoming,” said Old Fashion Days committee member Marsha Puckett.

But, as Puckett said, you don’t have to be from Lebanon Junction to join in the festivities. The 63rd annual event will be held on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6.

The fun kicks off on Friday at 6  p.m. in downtown Lebanon Junction. There will be dozens of booths offering food, crafts, novelty items and everything in between.

Booth spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis until 9 a.m. on Saturday. Booths run $20 without electricity to $40 with electric.

Booth applications are available at LJ City Hall, Peoples Bank of Bullitt County in Lebanon Junction or the Lebanon Junction branch library.

Or you can call (502) 345-5768.

Inside the Lebanon Junction Community Center, visitors will find a silent auction benefitting the Old Fashion Days Committee. The auction begins at 6 p.m. with the bidding ending at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Anyone wishing to donate items to the auction can call 543-5213 to arrange pickup or delivery.

Carnival rides and games, courtesy of S & S Concessions and Amusements, will be set up in the St. Benedict parking lot and lawn. Rides are open from 6-11 p.m. on Friday and from Noon until 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Additionally, Country Time Connections will offer pony and carriage rides Friday and Saturday at the Lebanon Junction Memorial Park, off of Main Street. Rides will be available from 6-11 p.m. on Friday and from Noon until 11 p.m. on Saturday.

The Old Fashion Parade will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Entries will start at the Pilot Truck Plaza and proceed downtown to the First Baptist Church.

Once the parade ends, the rest of the festival goes into full swing.

The Old Fashion Days Fine Art Exposition will be part of the festivities, as well as a silent auction.

The Bullitt County Public Library will display historic photographs of the city inside the community center. Staff members will be present from Noon until 7 p.m. on Saturday to explain the photos and to field questions.

Plus, anyone with historic pictures of the community should bring them to be scanned in for the display.

At 1 p.m., Trackside Bar and Grill will host a horseshoe tournament. Registration begins at Noon with an entry fee of $5.

Pageants will be held starting at 2 p.m. outside the community center.

Later on Saturday, a couple of new events will kick off.

At 4 p.m., there will be some Old Fashion contests open to the community. Events include bubble gum blowing, hot dog eating, decorated pumpkin and haystack hunt.

Anyone with a pumpkin to enter should drop them off at the community center on Friday.

You can vote for your favorite pumpkin until 8 p.m.

There is no entry fee for the other contests and sign up that day.

Little Rick’s Neighborhood Bar and Grill will host a cornhole tournament at 5 p.m. Entry fee is $5.

A cake walk at the community center will be held at 5:30 p.m. Entry fee is $1. To donate a cake, call  502-773-3639.

Entertainment at 8 p.m. by Bourbon Country closes out the night.
