Cooks may get into LJ contest

 Bake-off organizer and Old Fashion Days Committee member Marsha Puckett invites everyone to enter the annual event, if for nothing more than to help the Lebanon Junction Community Center. Once the winners have been announced all entries will be sold to benefit the community center. 

Anyone interested in entering the bake-off should prepare their choice of pies, cakes, cookies or brownies and deliver them to the Lebanon Junction Community Center for judging before 7 p.m. Friday Oct. 5.Entries will be judged at 8 p.m. Friday.

First, second and third-place ribbons will be awarded to the most outstanding entries. The winners will be announced Friday night.

The first place entry will be featured in next year’s Old Fashion Days pamphlet.

2011 Lebanon Junction Old Fashion Days Bake Off First Place Entry: Bobbie Puckett’s Apple Cake


1 cup cooking oil 

2 cups self rising flour 

3 cups peeled and chopped apples 

1/2 cup seedless raisins 

1/2 cup chopped pecans 

2 cups sugar 

3 eggs 

1 tsp. vanilla 

1 tsp. cinnamon 

1 tsp. nutmeg 


Combine oil, sugar and eggs. Beat well and add vanilla. Sift flour 

with spices and add to first mixture, mix well. Add apples, raisins 

and pecans, blend well. Pour into a well greased tube or bundt pan.
