SHEPHERDSVILLE - It took a lengthy discussion past sundown, but the Shepherdsville City Council agreed to maintain a sunsetting tax rate.
The council voted 5-1 in favor of tabling a proposal to turn a temporary increased occupational tax into a permanent tax.
The tax was initially increased by the council in 2011 from 1 to 1.5 percent. Its initial purpose was to help the city pay off debts.
In the original agreement, the 1.5 rate would remain through 2014.
