County to host diamond events

-A A +A

MOUNT WASHINGTON -- Weather permitting, and that is a big ‘if’ after the last ten days, Bullitt County will host a pair of major diamond events this weekend.

Bullitt Central and Bullitt East will co-host the Bullitt County Invitational Softball Tournament, an event with eight teams including defending state champion Reidland.

For the first time ever, a portion of the Louisville Invitational Baseball Tournament will be conducted outside Jefferson County as Bullitt East will host a four team round-robin portion of the event which is not really a tournament as there will be no overall champion. Each of the ten sites in the area will crown a champion in the four team bracket.

Bullitt County Invitational Softball Tournament

This will be the second year for this event that is co-hosted by Bullitt East and Bullitt Central.  Last season, the teams got pool play complete, but then the bracket portion got rained out including a game with the two host teams playing each other.

The pool at Bullitt Central will include Eastern, Nelson County and Henry County. The Lady Cougars will take on Eastern at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and then play Nelson County at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Bullitt Central will play Henry County at 10:30 a.m. There will also be games at 6 p.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. and noon at Bullitt Central.

Bullitt East’s four-team pool includes Grant County, Christian Academy and Reidland. The Lady Chargers will take on CAL at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and then play Grant County at 7 p.m. The red and gold will return to action at noon on Saturday to play Reidland. The other games in that pool will be at 8:30 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday at 9 and 10:30 a.m.

The top two teams in each pool will then move to Bullitt East for bracket play while the third and fourth place teams in each pool play at Bullitt Central. The ‘semi-finals’ at each location will take place at 2:30 and 4 p.m. with the winners meeting at 5:30 p.m.

The LIT Baseball Tournament is more like a showcase event as there is no overall champion. There will be ten ‘pods’ around the area. Most of the ‘pods’ have four teams but some pods have extra teams and extra games outside of the normal four-team round-robin format.

Bullitt East will host a pool that includes Trinity, Lone Oak and Madison Central, which as of Monday was the only undefeated baseball team in Kentucky.

The Chargers were going to open play in the LIT on Thursday, but because of all the rain earlier in the week will now begin the event on Friday. On Friday, Bullitt East will take on Lone Oak at 8:45 p.m. after Trinity plays Madison Central at 6:15 p.m.

There will be now be four games on Saturday with Bullitt East playing Madison Central at 11 a.m. Following that, Madison Central will play Lone Oak at 1:30 p.m. before Trinity and Lone Oak play at 4 p.m. The final game is now the game that was going to be played on Thursday, but now Bullitt East will take on Trinity at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The schedule change was made so that Bullitt East could move a district game at home against Fairdale to Thursday at 5 p.m.
