SHEPHERDSVILLE - After coaching his third team to a Little Bullitts title in the Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League, Jeremy Jenkins is finished at that level.

His third title came Saturday as his Pleasant Grove Dolphins defeated the top-seeded Maryville Patriots 12-0.

While the margin might seem comfortable, Jenkins was never comfortable in a league where defense has ruled.

On its second possession, Jenkins said the coaches saw something open up the middle.

That’s when quarterback Kayden Jenkins called his own number and raced up the middle 36 yards for a touchdown with 54 seconds left in the first quarter.

In the middle of the second quarter, Maryville was mounting a charge but the drive stalled at the Dolphin 16. But on the second play, Ayden Bloomer recovered a fumble.

The Dolphin defense took over and stopped Maryville.

Maryville was knocking at the scoring door in the second half but it could never get into the end zone.

The final score of the day came with just 1:51 remaining.

After Jaydin Bloomer stripped the ball from Patriot quarterback Joey Johnson, Jenkins pulled a pass play out of the bag.

On first down from the 10, Kayden Jenkins found Ryan Rayhill open for a touchdown toss.

“We had a lot of experience,” Jenkins said of his Dolphins. “A lot of them have played together and they like each other. Plus, the coaches did an excellent job.”

Minus the two big plays, the defenses ruled, which was exactly how Jenkins expected the play to be.

“It’s been a special year,” said Jenkins.”I’m proud of my team.”

For the Dolphins, Jenkins had 36 yards rushing and the 10-yard completion. He played a part in both touchdowns.

Tyler Spalding had nine yards on the ground and Dylan McCartin had six. Rayhill had the 10-yard scoring reception.

On defense, Laken Brown, who also played a key role in the punting game, and Rayhill each had seven tackles. Drew Lee and Spaulding had six stops. Hunter Hall and Jaydin Bloomer had five, while Nolan McCawley and Dylan McCartin had two. There were also seven team tackles. Fumbles were recovered by Ryan Rayhill, Tyler Spaulding and Jaydin Bloomer.
