MOUNT WASHINGTON – Bullitt East’s boys’ tennis program has big hopes for this season and the Chargers got the 2013 season off on the right foot with a pair of lopsided wins to open the campaign.
First, coach Dustin Armstrong’s squad rolled past Spencer County 5-0, losing just one set.
In singles, the Chargers’ top seed, Dalton Sego, rolled past James Mouser 6-0, 6-0. The score was the same for number two play Jacob Staples over Clay Abell. Nick Starkey then picked up the win in the number three slot by a 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 score over Brandon Richardson.
In doubles, the top team of Reese Milburn and Hunter Norris also picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win. It was pretty much the same for the number two team of Dylan Hooper and Zach Marlett as they recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win.
On Friday, Bullitt East got in a rescheduled match with North Bullitt and recorded another 5-0 victory.
Sego made it two straight as he downed Isaac Heines 6-0, 6-2 and Staples picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hershal Patel. At number three singles, Starkey defeated Collin Newton 8-1.
The Chargers’ doubles team of Milburn and Norris grabbed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kyle Warden and Cameron Kirk while Marlett and Hooper turned back Austin Clark and Lucas Johnson 6-4, 6-7 (9), 1-0 (8).
