MOUNT WASHINGTON - For the first time since 2005, the Bullitt East Lady Chargers will compete in the Girls’ Louisville Invitational Tournament starting on Wednesday of this week at Bellarmine University.

This is the first year of a new agreement that allowed Bullitt East (North Bullitt and Bullitt Central opted out) to be considered amongst the regular pool of teams from the Sixth and Seventh Regions. Based on that, the Lady Chargers have the number four seed of teams from the Jefferson County area.

Bullitt East won the LIT title in 1995.

Play started on Tuesday of this week with the teams seeded fifth through 12th playing four games. Those four winners will then advance to Wednesday to take on the top four seeds from Jefferson County. Bullitt East will take on the winner of the Sacred Heart-Fern Creek game at 8 p.m.

With a win on Wednesday, Bullitt East would advance to play on Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Franklin County, one of four ‘state’ teams that were earlier invited to the LIT. Franklin County defeated Bullitt East this past summer in Frankfort and both teams are ranked among the top 20 teams in the state.

With a win on Friday, Bullitt East would then advance to the semi-finals and would play at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The championship game is slated for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“The girls are excited about playing in it and being in it,” Bullitt East head coach Chris Stallings said over the weekend. “We’ve been trying to get into that mix (of teams eligible for the LIT). We’re ready to make the most out of it.

“It’s like any other game or tournament,” the coach said. “We want to take it game by game and get better each night. It’s not the end of the world win or lose. We want to get better.”

Admission to each session of the tournament will be $7.
