NICHOLS - A long-time member of the Nichols Fire District Board of Trustees entered a guilty plea to taking over $170,000 from the department.
James Paul Johnson Jr. appeared Thursday in Bullitt Circuit Court to admit to the theft of funds.
Johnson entered a plea to the charge of theft by unlawful taking over $10,000, a Class C felony punishable by 5-10 years in prison.
Prosecutor Michael Mann recommended a five-year sentence with Johnson serving six months in jail and the rest of the time would be probated.
