MOUNT WASHINGTON - The season for fresh local produce is upon us and area farmer’s markets are in full swing.
Striving to make the Mount Washington Farmer’s Market a destination, organizers recently hosted some live entertainment to amuse market goers.
Mount Washington residents Betty Porter and Cyndi White performed for the hundreds of people who visited the market on June 11.
Mount Washington Farmer’s Market coordinator Ruth Chowning of the Bullitt County Extension Service said people could expect live entertainment every week throughout the summer.
Chowning added that the market may soon begin offering refreshments and later hours in the near future.
The market, located off Old Bardstown Road between First Federal Savings Bank and Peoples Bank Mt. Washington in downtown Mount Washington, is made possible thanks to sponsorship from the extension service and volunteers from the Bullitt County Woman’s Club and the Mount Washington Main Street program.
Hours are currently 8 a.m. until noon every Saturday through Oct. 1.
Local growers and home gardeners are invited to sell their items. Sellers are required to purchase Farm to Market licenses from the city. Licenses can be purchased at City Hall on Snapp Street for $15 and are valid for one year. For more information contact Ruth Chowning at (502) 543-2257.
