MOUNT WASHINGTON - Local basketball fans can get a look at all three Bullitt County girls’ basketball teams in one sitting on Saturday in the first Bullitt County Challenge event.

So-called ‘showcase’ events have become popular throughout Kentucky over the past few years. In these events, teams get together and play one game in a non-tournament format. Bullitt East will play in three of these style events in January alone.

The idea for a local day of basketball was put forth by Bullitt East head coach Chris Stallings and he did the scheduling for Saturday’s event which the Lady Chargers will host. One internet posting and Stallings got more than three teams to respond.

The schedule on Saturday will be:

North Bullitt vs. Eastern. 4 p.m.

Bullitt Central vs. Ballard. 5:45 p.m.

Bullitt East vs. Bardstown. 7:30 p.m.

The plan at this point is to make this an annual event. Each of the three schools would host it once every three years. Next year’s date and host has not been decided.

“I like the idea,” said North Bullitt head coach Bill Robinette. “All the coaches get along well. It’s nice to showcase Bullitt County basketball. We are rivals, but we can work together to get something like this done.”

On Sunday of this week, the KHSAA website was showing Eastern with a 2-1 record while Ballard was 3-6 and Bardstown has a 4-2 mark.

One admission on Saturday will allow you to watch all three contests.

The three Bullitt County boys’ programs are going to have a similar event two weeks later at Bullitt East against three Fifth Region foes.
