No matter your political persuasion, the visit on Monday by First Lady Laura Bush was wonderful.
Seldom does Shepherdsville and Bullitt County have an opportunity to shine on something that is positive.
Yes, Monday’s appearance was a political stump for the Republican Party. There is no doubt of that.
But it was also a historic opportunity for Bullitt County.
Many in the crowd of 1,000 weren’t members of the Republican Party. Some were there to support the party; others were there to see the First Lady.
Some mentioned that it would be her final political appearance b efore leaving the White House.
We can remember the vice president, Al Gore, making a stop in Lebanon Junction during the 1997 flood. But this was a bit different.
Thanks to the White House staff for finding a lovely venue like Paroquet Springs Conference Centre to host the outing.
And thanks to the many volunteers who worked hard to make something like this happen in a very short time.
It was truly a special day for Bullitt County.
Despite some of the grumblings about the choices for the nation’s top office, please exercise the right and privilege to go out and vote.
