 LEBANON JUNCTION - There are no friars at St. Benedict Catholic Church, but there are plenty of fish fryers in the old school cafeteria.


The church began its annual fish fry Fridays, held during the Lenten season leading up to Easter Sunday.

Fish sandwiches, baked fish, shrimp and oysters are all available, along with side items ranging from onion rings and hushpuppies to green beans and slaw. Homemade desserts are also available.

St. Benedict hosts the event from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. through Apr. 7. The church is located at 227 Oak Street. Dine-in, carryout, or delivery orders are available. Call 833-4886.

Other community fish fry events:

- St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 197 S. Plum St. in Shepherdsville, 5-7:30 each Friday through Apr. 7.

Fish is supplied by Hungry Pelican, with shrimp also available, along with side items. Carry-out, dine-in and drive-thru are available.

- The Hillview Government enter will host a fish fry every Friday through Apr. 7, along with their regularly-scheduled Thursday night fish fry during the free Bluegrass shows.

- The Mount Washington Lions Club, 810 N.Bardstown Road, will host a fish fry every Friday through Apr. 7.

The events begin at 4 p.m., with fish and pork chop sandwiches available, as well as fries, slaw and homemade pie.

- St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, located at 11501 Maple Way in Louisville, will host fish and sides each Friday through Apr. 7 in the gymnasium.
