HILLVIEW - They protect and serve, and sometimes they spread extra holiday cheer.

Members of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 42 gathered at the Hillview Wal-Mart to assist selected Bullitt County children in their Shop with the FOP Lodge 42 program.

Lodge president Doug Walls said names of families being assisted were collected through Bullitt County Sheriffs Dep. Jeff Schank, who worked with the Multi-Purpose Community Action Agency.

Each child received much-needed clothing and a special toy while shopping with various FOP members and their families.

Walls said the program was funded through annual events involving the FOP food trailer.

“We want to give back to the community,” he said. “When we’re out serving food in that trailer, this is what the money is for.”

The lodge also raised funds for the event with a home interior candle sale.
