Free family fun returns as KidsFest set for Saturday

 SHEPHERDSVILLE - Hey kids! It’s time for Bullitt County’s funnest, happiest, most enjoyable free event!

The annual KidsFest, sponsored by KentuckyOne Health, will take place Saturday, March 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Paroquet Springs Conference Centre.

Over 50 local businesses and organizations will host booths and tables featuring fun activities, information and a chance to win door prizes valued at $50 or more.

“Don’t forget to sign up for all the giveaways,” said Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce executive director Alex Wimsatt. “We’ll have more tables this year, so we’re opening up more of the conference centre.”

Opening ceremonies will include “Get Moving” warm-up session, from 10-10:15 a.m. in the McDowell Room, presented by the Bullitt County YMCA.

“It will give people a chance to wake up and do some exercises with a Y instructor,” Wimsatt said.

From 10:15-10:45, kids can visit with some of their favorite characters at the Mascot Meet and Greet. Some of the annual visitors include Parkie the Dog from Park Community Federal Credit Union, the State Farm Neigh-Bear, and the BracesBracesBraces Tooth Fairy.

The McDowell Room will also feature one of the most popular KidsFest annual attendees: Mr. Magic will bring his uniques talents back for another visit from 11-11:45 a.m.

A new event features “Mr. Dan from Bernheim” (the Forest), who will present “Lets Sing Nature Songs” from 12-12:45.

From 1-1:45, the Eastside Middle School Cheer squad will host a meet and greet, culminating with a special proclamation to the team by Mount Washington mayor Barry Armstrong.

A new KidsFest activity will be to sure to offer memories worth framing, with a mini bowling alley presented by Strike and Spare Fern Valley in the Adam Shepherd Room.

Bullitt Bounce House Rentals will host numerous bounce houses in the main hall at no extra cost.

The Shepherdsville police Department will again host its Ident-A-Kid booth, where children can have their own identification cards made.

Outside, a new feature is the “Learning for Fun Research Bus” presented by the Bullitt County Public Schools Community Early Childhood Council. Whims said the bus regularly tours the county offering books and free activities.

Other vehicles will be on display outside, courtesy of Bullitt County EMS and the Zoneton Fire Department. The YMCA will feature an inflatable obstacle course.

Boy Scout Troop 868 will be in attendance agin this year, greeting attendees at the front entrance.

“This is on of the largest events in the community,” said WImsatt. “It’s a good opportunity to see what our community has to offer, plus lots of free stuff and free family activities.”

The 2017 KidsFest is also sponsored by Bullitt Bounce House Rentals, First Harrison Bank, Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, Park Community Federal Credit Union, Parquet Springs Conference Centre and The Pioneer News.
