Friday filled with woe for three area programs

-A A +A

SHEPHERDSVILLE – Coming off a big win two nights earlier over Moore, the Bullitt Central Cougars came up short on Friday as they dropped a tight 51-44 decision to visiting DeSales.

In a battle between two teams who each already have double-digit numbers in the win column, the Cougars could not generate enough offense to catch the Colts who outscored the home team in each of the first three quarters by narrow margins.

Bullitt Central (11-5) had only five players score in the loss and the team got only two points off the bench. Sophomore guard Chase Craddock and senior forward Brett Bourland led the way for the Cougars with 12 points each and senior guard Zach Humphrey added 11 points.

Coach Joe Pat Lee’s team played last night at Shawnee and the Cougars will be on the road again on Friday when they travel to Taylorsville for a battle with Spencer County. That will be part of a girl-boy doubleheader that will start at 6 p.m.

DESALES 51 (15-14-8-14) Phillips 6, Bouchard 8, Roush 14, M. Schurfranz 2, Shellman 12, Tubb 6, Sullivan 3.

Tough Finish for BE

The rematch didn’t go as well for Bullitt East as the initial meeting with Martha Layne Collins.

Meeting for the second time in five weeks, this time in Mount Washington, the Chargers came up a tip-in short on Friday as they lost 56-55. Bullitt East had moved ahead late on a basket by Ezra Troutman, but then could not stop Collins sophomore Trajon Stone from tipping in a teammate’s miss at the buzzer.

Bullitt East had beaten Collins 69-62 in the championship game of the Lloyd Memorial Tournament back on Dec. 28.

However, Bullitt East senior Rhett Troutman played in the first meeting, but he did not play on Friday as he continues to recover from a sprained ankle suffered in the Boy’s LIT quarter-final loss to Fern Creek.

The loss dropped Bullitt East to 15-3. Two of the three losses have come to teams that the Chargers had previously beaten.

Ezra Troutman finished with 15 points for the Chargers while Tyler Bacon had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
