SHEPHERDSVILLE - Local gamers no longer have to travel as far for their products.
Cybertek Games is open for business in the Shepherd’s Crossing Shopping Center.
Proprietor Jack Wells wanted to offer a gaming store for local residents, noting his store was the only one in Shepherdsville focusing on video games and systems.
“After careful consideration we decided to open here because we wanted to keep it local,” he said. “Everybody in the community is super glad we’re here. It saves a trip.”
Wells said Cybertek’s prices were “very competitive” in comparison to other gaming stores.
“We also perform disc repair,” he said. “Not many do that anymore.”
Cybertek features many of the latest home gaming systems including Xbox360, PSP, Wii, DES and PlayStation 2.
The store also buys, sells and trades video games and DVDs.
The back of the store features a gaming lounge area, with a couch, chair and TV. Wells said systems would be hooked up to the TV so customers could play or try out their favorite games.
A former Army brat and corporate world employee, Wells returned to Bullitt County two years ago to live near family. This is his first attempt at starting a new business.
“I really love video games,” he said. “I could do other businesses, maybe make more money, but this just seemed like the next step. It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited to come to work.”
Wells credited his fiancee, Doreen, for helping to establish and design the store. He also thanked Flynn Bros. Construction for assistance in establishing the store area.
Cybertek is an associated partner of Capital Games, an international cluster of local independent video game companies.
“We want to do local business and help out the local community,” Wells said. “We like being here. I enjoy being here every day.”
Cybertek is located at 189 Adam Shepherd Pkwy. #20. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.
Wells added that Cybertek gift cards are now available.
