SHEPHERDSVILLE - Bullitt County will have it’s biggest girls’ intra-county battle of the regular season on Wednesday when Bullitt East travels to North Bullitt for an important 9th District clash.
Bullitt East, after starting the season with a loss, has rolled to six straight wins heading into Wednesday’s game. North Bullitt stands at 4-2 after splitting a pair of games last week.
While it is still early in the season, the two squads had three of the state’s top ten scorers through the first three weeks of the regular season. North Bullitt senior Halee Heltsley is tied for third in the state in scoring with 13 goals in six games while Bullitt East junior Lexi Higginbotham and freshman Alnee Tutson each have 11 goals to be tied for ninth in Kentucky scoring.
Bullitt East is fourth in the state in scoring at 6.3 goals a game.
The showdown at North Bullitt will start at 5:30 p.m.
Bullitt East pushed it winning streak to six straight last week with a 5-1 victory at North Hardin before returning home to beat Collegiate 9-2.
In the first game, Jessi Hottois scored three of the goals while Tutson pushed across to score. In the romp past Collegate, the Lady Chargers got an explosion from Tutson who scored four times. Higginbotham was back in scoring mode with three goals while both Kayla Buckler and Jessica Carver scored a goal each.
North Bullitt started last week with a 6-0 victory over Meade County as Heltsley beat the goalkeeper four times. Teammate Kristin Mulliniks added the other two goals. Senior Sam Curtsinger got the shut-out in goal.
The outcome was not as good on Wednesday as the Lady Eagles dropped a 3-0 decision to Atherton.
The North Bullitt boys have been busy since the Bullitt Cup, going 2-1-2 to move to 4-2-3 overall.
The two recent wins were a 4-0 decision over Southern as well as a 2-0 outcome over Pleasure Ridge Park. Against Southern, Tyler Platacis had two of the goals while both Chris Badgett and Kyle Pursley each scored once. Against Pleasure Ridge Park, the two goals were scored by Brandon Henderson and Nathan Irvin.
Trevor Lindsay was in goal for both of the shut-outs.
In a 2-2 tie with Spencer County, both Henderson and Pursley scored goals.
The Eagles also suffered a 3-0 setback to Nelson County in a 9th District contest.
Since winning the Bullitt Cup, Bullitt East has gone 1-1-1. The red and gold got past LaRue County 5-0 to improve to 4-2-1 overall. The tie was a 3-3 outcome with Pleasure Ridge Park. There was also a 3-2 loss to Butler.
