April 2013 brought a much needed change in the judicial system. In 2011, the General Assembly passed House Bill 308 to ensure that Kentucky complies with the 2007 National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Act Record Improvement Program (NARIP).
House Bill 308, codified as KRS 237.108, requires Kentucky courts to provide records to the FBI’s NICS database on individuals who have been adjudicated mentally defective or committed to a mental institution.
