ValuMarket and Baptist East Hospital recently teamed up to promote community health and wellness during a week of free health screenings held at various Valu Market locations in the Louisville area.

On Feb. 8 the Mount Washington ValuMarket hosted an afternoon of free screenings, where everyone had the opportunity to receive heart rate, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, body fat and Body Mass Index checks, courtesy of ValuMarket and Baptist East.

“Helping people know their numbers is important and something we work hard to promote,” said ValuMarket health and wellness coordinator, Amy Oetken. “Taking care of your health is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your family.”

Besides offering free screenings, a Kentucky Cancer Program representative was on hand to offer information about their program, which offers free mammograms to women without insurance.

Oetken said the event was a way to raise awareness of the importance of health and wellness, adding that ValuMarket strove to be a key player in promoting healthy lifestyles in the community.

Valu Market also sponsors a 10-week nutrition program at the First Baptist Church of Mount Washington, which is currently underway.
