High Winds Rake Bullitt County...

Last night proved a busy night for Bullitt County Emergency Services as a line of severe thunderstorms moved through the county bringing high winds and heavy rains as it moved across the county at 65 MPH.  Latest reports and area surveys this morning, show no confirmed tornado touchdowns in the county. However, at one point during the height of the storm, a uncomfired report of a funnel cloud was reported near the Bullitt and Jefferson county line near Whispering Oaks Trailer Park.  At this time, no damage has been reported to Bullitt County Emergency Management that would indicate a tornado.

As the storm progressed through the county, numerous reports of wires and trees being down started to filter into the Bullitt County E911 Center.  The worst damage that Bullitt County Emergency Managment found, was located on Highway 61 south - near the Bulllitt County Stockyards.  A roof from the west side of the building became detached, was lifted in the air, cross Hwy 61 and landed near a utility pole on the east side of the Stockyards.

Local utilty crews this morning converged on the area in attempt to restore power, telephone and cable outages.

Today (Wednesday) we will get a break from severe weather, but it appears that dark skies are once again looming for our area starting sometime Friday night on into Saturday morning.

Another strong storm system will gather strength across the midwest portion of the United States on Thursday and another round of damaing winds, large hail and a threat for tornadoes could once again threaten portions of the Kentuckiana region late Friday night.

I encourage everyone to think ahead of shelter placements.  If you live in a mobile home.. know in advance where you need to go BEFORE the storm is upon you.  Having a plan of action in place could save your life.

Continue to monitor the latest forecast and updates from the National Weather Service as we could see a total repeat of what we saw last night... once again... Friday night.
