Holiday season perfect time to bank on effort to aid pregnancy center

SHEPHERDSVILLE - As the holidays approach, a local bank hopes the community will not forget to assist the smallest of angels.

PBI Bank is accepting donated items and funds to benefit clients of A New Hope Pregnancy Resource Center.

A New Hope was established as a non-profit organization to provide free resources and educational materials for mothers in the midsts of unplanned pregnancies.

The organization set up an account at PBI. According to volunteer Becky Hoskins, the bank was interested in assisting with a Christmas fundraiser.

“They wanted to sponsor us for Christmas, so we checked into it,” Hoskins said.

Teresa Wicker, representing PBI, said the organization assisted her own family.

“They helped my daughter, and they did that out of love,” she said. “I wanted to help give back to them, it’s a good place for help and advice for younger, pregnant women. A New Hope will help them get help.”

Wicker was aware of the many resources available to the community, hoping to raise public awareness for A New Hope as much as donations.

“There are so many children that don’t have a chance of knowing sometimes that there are other options out there for them,” Wicker said. “A New Hope shows that they have other options.”

A New Hope opened an official location on Highway 44 West. Hoskins said the organization was able to assist about 100 clients from there in the past year.

“Some are just in need of the basics,” said Hoskins. “Some need emergency assistance, and some are in need of completing programs.”

The organization provides parenting classes, support groups (including fatherhood support) and incentive programs, along with referrals for community service and adoption.

Hoskins said most of the clients’ children are under two years of age. The organization also provides clothing, formula, diapers and wipes to families in need of emergency assistance. The organization’s donation wish list is more practical necessities than toys.

The wish list included diapers in size 2, 5 and 6,; Similac Advance formula; gas relief drops; fever reducer; teething gel; newborn and preemie clothes; detergent; hangers; diaper bags; pull-ups of all sizes.

Donations may be made at PBI Bank, 340 S. Buckman St., through Dec. 24. For more information contact PBI, 543-2245, or A New Hope, 212-2535.
