Well, the first week of the new year has found me slightly under the weather, but I've been worse. Thank goodness for all the holidays there are to celebrate.
Thanks to the sniffles, I've really been able to enjoy Hot Tea Month, Oatmeal Month and Soup Month. It's also International Gourmet Coffee Month, maybe I'll get around to that stuff when I'm totally better.
I tried to get organized in honor of Get Organized Month, but I still have a few weeks to go on that.
I'm kinda celebrating National Hobby Month, though not easy with illness and cold weather. I like baseball, so I've been reading a lot about the history of it, which helps me celebrate Book Blitz Month.
I try to participate in as many holiday designations as I can. One night when I felt better I actually walked a friend's pet. I don't have my own, but it helped to check Walk Your Pet Month off my to-do list.
This week offers opportunities to celebrate almost anything. For example, National Pizza Week is Jan. 9-15. With a Kentucky bowl game, NFL playoffs, the NCAA Championship game, football fans have just one more excuse.
If pizza isn't your thing, or you need a break from a week's worth of it, take home a hamburger from Wendy's on Monday. It's 'Where's the Beef' Day, honoring Clara Peller, the little old lady who first uttered that phrase in 1984 and made it so common that presidential candidates were using it.
Elvis fans will honor The King in their own ways Saturday on the 76th anniversary of his birth. Sometimes when I'm sitting in the bathroom I think of what happened to Elvis and I get worried. But now, instead, I'll relax and think about Elvis from the tub, where I can celebrate Bubble Bath Day.
There are plenty of January holidays to celebrate, not just the biggies but all sorts of things. You can see a list of events at www.pioneernews.net in the Features section of the site.
Have a fun week, and get a start on it this weekend with a a peanut butter and banana pizza!
